Momence vs Mindbody for Boutique Studios: Fees, Features, and Switching
Momence or Mindbody for your yoga, Pilates, barre, or cycling studio? We compare published pricing, payment fees, the Mindbody app vs Momence booking app, automation, spot booking, and what switching involves.
If you run a yoga, Pilates, barre, or cycling studio, the Momence vs Mindbody question usually comes down to one thing: do you need a marketplace to find new clients, or do you need better tools to keep the ones you already have? Mindbody gives you a consumer app with a big audience. Momence keeps your clients in a booking app that only shows your studio, and puts more of its effort into marketing automation.
Everything else (fees, spot booking, reporting, switching) follows from that choice. Here's how the two compare for a boutique studio in late 2026, using what each company publishes and what studio owners report.
Momence vs Mindbody: the short answer
- Pick Mindbody if a real share of your new clients find you through the Mindbody app or ClassPass, if you run several locations, or if you want a published starting price before you talk to sales.
- Pick Momence if most of your bookings already come through your own website and Instagram, you want automated follow-up for intro offers and lapsed members, and you'd rather your clients didn't browse competing studios while they book with you.
- Neither publishes full tier pricing, so you'll get a quote either way. Get both quotes in writing, with processing rates, before you decide.

Business management software for fitness, wellness, and beauty businesses
Starting at Starts at $79–$99/month per location (the pricing page shows both figures); plan pricing is quoted after a sales call
Pricing transparency: what each one actually publishes
Mindbody publishes more than Momence, but not much more. When we rendered the Mindbody pricing page on October 20, 2026, it gave two starting prices: the plan card said "Starting at $99 USD/month per location" on one load and $79 on another, and the FAQ on the same page says "Starting at $79 USD/month (North America and Asia)." A banner also offered Accelerate plus a branded mobile app for $99 USD/month per location. All three plans (Starter, Accelerate, Ultimate) are marked "Let's talk," so the price you pay depends on the call.
Feature gating is public, and it matters for boutique studios:
- Starter: booking, integrated payments, website widgets, a business website, a Mindbody app listing, basic reporting
- Accelerate: adds Pick-a-Spot, room and resource management, promo codes, advanced reporting
- Ultimate: adds automated email and SMS campaigns, a lead pipeline, and the AI front desk
- Branded app: an add-on on Accelerate and Ultimate
So a reformer studio that wants spot booking starts at Accelerate, and one that wants built-in email and SMS automation is looking at Ultimate.
Momence doesn't publish a number at all. Its pricing page says "Let's talk pricing" and asks you to describe your business. There's a free trial, but no public tiers or starting price. If you want to know your total cost before a sales call, Momence won't help you there.
Payment processing fees
Neither company publishes a per-transaction rate, so you need to ask for it.
Mindbody Payments is built into the software. Mindbody's payments page says there are no extra monthly fees, setup fees, or long-term contracts for payments, and you pay a per-transaction fee when you process a payment. It supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, Tap to Pay, and ACH, and can charge no-show and late-cancel fees automatically.
The detail most studio owners miss is in that page's FAQ: bookings made through the Mindbody app or Mindbody affiliates such as Google "may include a separate fee or revenue share." Bookings from your own website and direct links follow your normal plan and processing fees. Marketplace clients don't come free, so ask what that revenue share is.
Momence processes payments through Stripe. Capterra reviewers report that Momence adds a platform fee on top of Stripe's standard fees, and Momence doesn't publish that fee. Ask for the all-in rate per transaction in your quote, and run it against last month's card volume.
Marketplace exposure: Mindbody app vs Momence app
This is the biggest difference between the two.
The Mindbody app is a consumer marketplace. Every Mindbody plan includes a listing, and Mindbody says the app has over 3 million monthly users. It also says an average of more than 22,000 consumers a month make their first purchase at a business through the app. You can pay for Promoted Intro Offers (charged only when someone becomes a customer), use dynamic pricing for off-peak spots, and get listed on Google through Mindbody's affiliate network. Mindbody belongs to Playlist, which also owns ClassPass.
The catch is the one you'd expect: the client who finds you on the app can find the studio down the street just as easily. Some boutique owners also feel marketplace and ClassPass discounting undercuts their own pricing.
The Momence app takes the opposite approach. Momence's features page says the app "is strictly a booking app": a client sees your business only, and can't search for other businesses. It's free for your clients, and branded apps are available. You get no discovery from it at all, but your members aren't shown alternatives either.
Marketing automation and client communication
Momence is stronger here, and on Mindbody you only get the comparable tools on the top tier.
Momence includes:
- Sequences: automated journeys for new leads, intro offer conversion, missed-class follow-up, and win-backs
- Spotfiller: automated outreach to fill empty spots, using rules you set
- Unified inbox: two-way SMS, email, in-app messages, and Instagram and Facebook DMs in one place
- AI Inbox Agent: answers routine questions and handles eligible booking and membership requests
- Reviews: sends happy clients on to Google reviews
Mindbody's automated email and SMS campaigns, lead dashboard, and AI front desk are part of Ultimate. On Accelerate, the AI Concierge is a paid add-on. If you're on Starter or Accelerate today and paying for a separate email or SMS tool, add that cost when you compare quotes.

Spot booking for reformer, bike, and barre studios
Both platforms let clients pick a specific reformer, bike, or spot in the room.
- Mindbody Pick-a-Spot requires Accelerate or Ultimate, along with room and resource management.
- Momence spot scheduling lets you lay out your studio and have clients choose where they practice. Momence doesn't publish tiers, so ask whether it's in your quote.
If spot booking is the main thing you care about, also look at Mariana Tek, which is built around it. Our guide to the best booking software for Pilates and reformer studios compares it with Arketa, WellnessLiving, and others.
Reporting
Both cover what a boutique studio needs. Momence's reporting includes cash-basis and earned revenue, payroll reports, attendance, and intro offer conversion rates. That last one matters if your business depends on turning intro packs into memberships.
Mindbody's Starter plan has basic reporting. Advanced dashboards for sales, visits, and memberships start at Accelerate, and client, growth, and retention analytics come with Ultimate. Mindbody is also the more established option for multi-location and franchise reporting.
What switching from Mindbody to Momence involves
Switching takes a few weeks of planning. Here's what to expect.
Getting your data out of Mindbody
You can export a lot yourself from Mindbody's reports: client contact lists, memberships, attendance, and sales history. Migration guides from other vendors, such as Spark Membership's Mindbody export guide, say the free export doesn't include stored card or bank details. The same guide lists Mindbody's paid full export, which includes card and ACH data, at $500 USD (varying by region). Confirm the current price and process with Mindbody, because vendor guides go out of date.
Momence's switching program
Momence's Switch to Momence page says more than 60% of its customers came from another platform. It offers two onboarding paths:
- Coordinated onboarding: a dedicated specialist manages the project plan, coordinates eligible data migration, and plans the cutover to an agreed launch date
- Self-guided launch: product training and recurring support calls while your team sets up the account
Momence's FAQ says migration typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. It says clients usually don't have to re-enter card details, but whether saved cards can move depends on your current payment provider. Many studios keep running on their old software until launch day.
Telling your members
Even when cards move, members get a new app, a new login, and new booking links. Send emails before launch, put a note on the front desk, and update the booking links on your website and in your Instagram bio. If any card data can't move, give members a deadline to add a card so recurring memberships don't fail.
Check your contract first
Capterra reviewers report Mindbody contracts that are hard to cancel. Check your term and notice period before you set a launch date, so you don't pay for both systems longer than you planned.
Which one should your studio choose?
- New studio that needs clients fast: Mindbody. The app listing is the one thing Momence can't match. Just budget for the marketplace revenue share.
- Established boutique studio with a loyal community: Momence. If most bookings already come through your own channels, its automation and booking-only app suit you better.
- Reformer or cycling studio: either works. On Mindbody, check that your quote covers Accelerate or higher. On Momence, check that spot scheduling is in your quote. Also compare Mariana Tek.
- Studio on Mindbody Starter paying for a separate email tool: price Momence against Mindbody Ultimate, not against Starter.
- Multi-location or franchise brand: Mindbody has the longer track record here, though Momence has multi-site customers like R3FORM. Ask both for references at your size.
- Very small studio with simple class packs: you may not need either. Look at Punchpass and the rest of our sports and fitness management software category.
Before you decide, pull your last 90 days of new clients and see how many came from the Mindbody app or ClassPass. If it's a small share, you're mostly paying for discovery you don't use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Momence cheaper than Mindbody?
There's no way to tell from public pricing. Mindbody lists a starting price of $79 to $99 per location per month with plan prices quoted on a call, and Momence publishes no price at all. Get written quotes from both, including processing rates and add-ons like a branded app, and compare the totals.
Does Momence have a marketplace like the Mindbody app?
No. Momence says its app is strictly a booking app: clients see only your business and can't search for others. That protects your members from seeing competitors, but it won't bring you new clients.
Does Mindbody charge extra for bookings from the Mindbody app?
It can. Mindbody's payments FAQ says bookings through the Mindbody app or affiliates like Google may include a separate fee or revenue share. Bookings from your own website follow your normal plan and processing fees.
Can I move my clients' saved cards from Mindbody to Momence?
Often, yes, but not always. Momence says it depends on your current payment provider and how the card data is stored, and it confirms what can move before launch. On the Mindbody side, card data comes with the paid full export, not the free reports.
How long does it take to switch from Mindbody to Momence?
Momence says a migration typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. You can keep running on Mindbody while Momence is set up, then switch on a planned launch date.
Who owns Momence now?
Momence is part of Xplor Technologies and now appears as Xplor Momence. Mindbody belongs to Playlist, which also owns ClassPass.
Which is better for a Pilates reformer studio?
Both support spot booking. Mindbody's Pick-a-Spot needs Accelerate or higher, and Momence includes spot scheduling with a custom studio layout. Our Pilates and reformer booking software guide also covers purpose-built options like Mariana Tek and Arketa.
