Rime
Conversational text-to-speech built for real-time voice agents
About Rime
Rime Labs makes text-to-speech models for live conversation. Mist v3 targets the lowest latency (37 ms P50 time to first audio at single concurrency, per Rime's own benchmark) and Coda targets the most natural expression. Both stream over HTTP and WebSockets, support custom voice cloning, and can be self-hosted on-prem or in a VPC on the Enterprise plan. Pricing is usage-based from $0.03 per 1,000 characters.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Mist v3 publishes some of the lowest time-to-first-audio numbers in the market
- Simple per-character pricing with 20 concurrent generations on the self-serve plan
- Self-hosting option keeps latency predictable and audio data in your own environment
- Deterministic pronunciation is useful for invented names and fantasy terms
Cons
- Voices and tuning are aimed at customer-service calls, not acted character performances
- Mist v3 covers only four languages
- Self-hosting and unlimited cloning require an Enterprise contract
