About Endpoint Protector

Endpoint Protector is an endpoint data loss prevention (DLP) platform that monitors and controls sensitive data across Windows, macOS, and Linux devices. It combines USB and peripheral device control, content-aware inspection of file transfers, enforced USB encryption, and eDiscovery scans of data at rest, and it can block uploads of sensitive data to AI tools such as ChatGPT and Copilot. Originally built by CoSoSys, the product is now sold by Netwrix and deploys as SaaS, a virtual appliance, or in AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Covers Windows, macOS, and Linux from one console, which many DLP tools don't do equally well
  • Very granular device control rules down to vendor ID, product ID, and serial number
  • Blocks sensitive data from being pasted or uploaded into AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot
  • Reviewers frequently praise fast, responsive customer support
  • Predefined compliance policies for HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR, NIST, and SOX speed up rollout
  • Multiple deployment options including SaaS, virtual appliance, and major public clouds

Cons

  • No public pricing; you must fill in a form to get a quote
  • Some users report the agent slows endpoints during file scans
  • The admin interface feels dated compared to newer security consoles
  • Focused on endpoint DLP, so broader cloud and network DLP needs other Netwrix or third-party tools

Key Features

Device Control

Lock down, monitor, and manage USB and peripheral ports with granular rules based on vendor ID, product ID, serial number, user, computer, or group.

Content-Aware Protection

Inspects data in motion by content and context to monitor, control, and block file transfers through browsers, email clients, messaging apps, and cloud storage.

Enforced Encryption

Automatically encrypts USB storage devices with password-based encryption so data stays protected in transit.

eDiscovery

Scans data at rest on endpoints through manual or scheduled scans, then lets admins encrypt or delete sensitive files that are found.

AI and LLM Data Loss Prevention

Blocks or restricts uploads of sensitive data to ChatGPT, Copilot, and other AI apps, and controls copy/paste and clipboard activity at the endpoint.

Intellectual Property Protection

Uses N-gram-based text categorization to discover IP such as source code across hundreds of file formats and control its transfer.

Single Multi-OS Console

Manages policies for Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints from one web dashboard with real-time alerts on policy violations.

Audit Logs and SIEM Integration

Logs every file transfer, device connection, and policy event with user, endpoint, and timestamp, and forwards logs to SIEM tools.

Directory and SSO Integration

Syncs policies with Active Directory and Entra ID user and group structures, supports SSO, and offers API access for reporting and automation.

Flexible Deployment

Available as SaaS, as a virtual appliance in OVF and VHD formats, or deployed in AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

Best For

USB and Removable Media Control

IT teams restrict which USB devices employees can use and enforce encryption on approved drives to stop data walking out on removable media.

Regulatory Compliance

Healthcare, finance, and retail organizations use predefined policies and audit logs to meet HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR, and similar requirements.

Source Code and IP Protection

Software companies detect source code and other intellectual property on endpoints and block it from leaving through uploads or transfers.

Generative AI Data Leakage Prevention

Security teams stop employees from pasting customer data or confidential documents into ChatGPT, Copilot, and other AI assistants.

Insider Threat Monitoring

Organizations log and block risky data movement by employees and identify users who repeatedly violate data security policies.
